China and the Vatican are close to reaching a historic deal regarding the appointment of bishops, according to Reuters. If reached, it would be a breakthrough in relations for both states. Some Catholics in the underground community, as well as those around the world, are sceptical with the deal; while some consider that the Chinese regime is now ready for dialogue and compromise.
