While China's foreign minister, Wang Yi is visiting the US and will meet with his US counterpart, John Kerry, to discuss issues such as the South China Sea dispute and the nuclear development in North Korea, Australian defence minister Marise Payne has hinted Australia may conduct its own freedom of navigation maritime operation in the South China Sea to challenge China's growing assertiveness in the disputed region.
