Two Hong Kong Uber drivers were fined after pleading guilty to driving without proper licences, the latest slap on the wrist for the global ride-sharing giant. The pair were among seven Uber drivers arrested in Hong Kong in an undercover police sting in August, as the burgeoning company encounters regulatory roadblocks around the world. Chan Siu Kam explains.

A woman walks past the offices of Uber in Hong Kong, China, 22 January 2016. Two drivers for the mobile car-hire service Uber have each been fined HK$7,000, Euros 830, after pleading guilty to accepting passengers without a proper permit and valid third-party insurance and also had their licences suspended for a year. They are among seven Uber drivers charged with the same offences. The drivers' arrest in August raised eyebrows in Hong Kong, with critics querying why the government had invited Uber to do business in the city but then cracked down on them afterwards.
