Useljenica, rođena u Keniji, je neočekivano upala u australski parlament. U srijedu je položila prisegu i postala prva osoba afričkog crnačkog podrijetla koja je preuzela ovakvu dužnost. Lucy Gichuhi je preuzela senatsko mjesto od Boba Daya, međutim kao nezavisna zastupnica.
