A group of Afghan cultural figures are hosting famous Afghan poets and authors from European countries to discuss the matter next month.

A well-known Afghan Poet Sharif Saiidi and two famous Afghan writers and researchers Hamza Vaezi and Jawad Khawari from Europe are invited to the event.

One of the event’s organizers Abuzar Mazoori says the event “stems from the needs of Afghan community in Australia”.
“The event is a step towards systematic preservation of the culture and language which are actually crucial parts of Afghan community’s identity in Australia”, he said in an interview with SBS Dari.

“We are going to forget our original culture and language, especially our kids who are born and raised here and they gradually become ignorant of the language”.

According to him, the community has no blueprint for approaching the issue and this coming event will pull the trigger of “more serious works in art, language and culture”.

The event will be held in two nights; a music and poetry night with Australian based singer-songwriter Zia Sahil and a literary forum night with writers and poets on the second and third of February at Narre Warren.
