Former foreign minister Julie Bishop said she plans to re-contest her seat at the coming election and has given her backing to Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
Speaking to media in New Zealand ahead of a speech to the country's centre-right National Party on Thursday, Ms Bishop said she had no plans to bail out of politics.
"I am the pre-selected Liberal candidate for the seat of Curtin; it's my intention to run."
Ms Bishop also said current polls putting the coalition behind Labor were too far out from the election to be conclusive and she didn't accept them.
Asked whether Mr Morrison was the right person to lead the party, she said only "yes".
The appearance comes after speculation over whether the former Liberal deputy leader would recontest her Perth seat.
Ms Bishop resigned from the government frontbench after Malcolm Turnbull was toppled as prime minister and her bid to replace him as Liberal leader fell short.
Mr Morrison said this week Ms Bishop had not updated him on her plans since she quit cabinet, at which time she planned to go to the polls again.
