However, on 05 October 2018, South Sudanese prisoners at the National Security facility riots and demanded their day in court instead of being kept behind bars without trial. It was reported that some of the prisoners took up arms from the prison guards and demanded their release. Peter Biar Ajak was one of the civilians at the facility. Biar and Karbino Wol are now among the 8 people who will appear before the three judges in Juba. According to one of Biar's lawyers, it is not clear which department is prosecuting according to this statement.
“Peter Biar, Karbino Wol and 6 others have been charged and are expected to appear in court at about 10 South Sudan local time. Peter will be in court with these people and the charges related to the prison riots in October last year. I am not aware if there are charges related to the July 2018 arrest. Currently, we are aware that Deng Achuil is the leading prosecutor assigned by the Ministry of Justice to National Security. We are aware that the investigation was led by another security officer called Alex from the National Security. What we are not aware of is who the complainant? We are not aware of the 8 people are being prosecuted by the State or any other department? I do hope this is something that will be known after the first session.
We will update you soon after the court session
