Sudanese President Omar Hassan el Beshire is reportedly stepping down as the President of the republic of Sudan after 30 years. This morning in Sudan, State Owned Omdurman TV’s anchor made a short announcement that, “The Sudanese army will issue an important statement soon. Wait for it.”

According to the sources that SBS Dinka talk to, Sudanese protesters are still camping outside the military headquarters in Khartoum awaiting the announcement from the army. Sudan got independent from both Egypt and Britain independence in 1956.

Omar el Beshir is the Sudanese President that ruled for three decades. In April 1985, just three years after South Sudan and North went to the war, Sudanese President Jaafar Muhammad Jaafar Nimeiri was ousted with the same mass demonstration.

The mass protest began in the historical town of Atbara on 19 December 2018 then slowly move toward Khartoum. For four months, Sudanese citizens have been demanding the reduction of high food prices, and that quickly turn political until now. It has been four hours now since the announcement was made.

SBS News also report other sources covering the same story.

"We call on our people from across the Khartoum capital and the region around to immediately go to the sit-in area and not leave from there until our next statement is issued," the Sudanese Professionals Association said, according to AFP.
Al Jazeera's Hiba Morgan said  residents were already celebrating before any announcement was made.

"People are celebrating and pouring in to the sit-in area. Protesters are saying they are very confident that Bashir will resign," she said.
A sit-in demonstration outside army headquarters, which also houses Bashir's residence, has entered its sixth day on Thursday.

Its the biggest challenge to Bashir's three decades of rule.
