Dr Angok Kuol Tiir told SBS Dinka that South Sudanese Ministry of Health is taking samples from those who have died from home. In the last few days, some of the specimens were tested positive of COVID-19. Dr Angok is warning all South Sudanese to find implement social distancing rules to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The number of COVID-19’s cases in South Sudan is increasing, and the number of people who died is reported at 6. There are many high-profile Government officials also tested positive of COVID-19 in the last few days. Dr Angok Kuol Tiir, who is South Sudan Coronavirus Incident Manager, was interviewed this morning on SBS Dinka.

“There are senior individuals tested positive of COVID-19 within the High-Level Task Force on, but I don’t have to mention their names. These elders are vulnerable too because they visit families whose members have died, and they can end up contracting the disease there. We have been taking samples from those who died before they were diagnosed, and some of them are being found positive of COVID-19.”

Among those mention to have been tested positive of COVID-19 are South Sudanese First Vice President Dr Riek Machar, Angelina Teny, the wife of Dr Riek and South Sudanese Minister of Defense. South Sudanese Minister of Information Michael Makuei Lueth is also reported by VOA to be one of the people tested positive.

Dr Angok said that many South Sudanese have been ignoring the severity of the disease and he calls on all people to start taking things seriously as the numbers are increasing.
