“I was controlling money, but they needed me out.” South Sudanese former Minister of Finance speaks

(Audio in Dinka) Arthur Akuein Chol was the first South Sudanese Minister of Finance and Economic Planning when the Government was formed in October 2005. In 2007, Akuien was arrested on the charges of corruption. Arthur Akuien Chol was talking to us from Sydney, Australia.

Akuein told SBS Dinka that his arrest was 'engineered by those who he refused to get the money that they need." Akuein accused many officials in the Government for the missed or the embezzlement of the public funds or the oil money. Akuein was 'acquitted of all corruption charges', but he is pointing fingers on senior members of the ruling SPLM.
