South Sudanese former child soldier who is now a journalist, civil right activist and author John Ngong Aluong remembers his former director Sebit William Garang Dut. Ngong Aluong who left his home village of Kolmerek in 1990 considered Sebit William as one of his best mentors. Sebit taught me the concept of being the activist. In 1993, he selected us as the part of the team to represent South Sudan during the visit of Paul John Paul II in Gulu-Uganda. Despite the challenges that many people in South Sudan and Polataka, in particular, went through; John Pen still believes Sebit who was the director of the School played a major role in ensuring these children were kept safe.
