SBS learned from the relatives that Lavinia Atab Anei Yor whom we conducted an interview in May has passed. Lavinia Atab Anei Yor was a fighter who tried all that she could to survive just to take of her children. She defied the odds by living beyond the time frame that was given to her by doctors. As she was terminally ill, she was still going to work just in order to pay the Victim C injection which was meant to sustain her.

Lavinia Atap Anei Yor was a mother, grandmother and she came to Australia in 1997. In 2015, she was diagnosed with breast cancer on which she went for the operation. She was again told that disease spread to her lungs and that she is left with 6 months to live. As a fighter, she worked hard and save some money for treatment in Mexico.

Atap believes that her trip to Mexico gave her more months beyond what the doctor said. Atap knew very early that doctors were not ready to promise her any hope or survival. During her illness and battle with cancer, her children especially and 8 years old daughter is affected and disturbed by the situation. Atap is survived by her children and grandchildren.
