At 12 years, Akech who is now 23 started playing soccer in primary and later shifted to AFL the Australian footy in which she became the first African Girl to be drafted to the girls team in Western Australia. After many years of playing both soccer and AFL, Akech is now expecting to be the drafted to AFL women National Team. One the other hand, Mangar who is older to Akech was a student of aviation at Victoria University. Mangar was discovered during a school competition. So far Mangar has been champions across Australia on the race that includes 2016 WA 200 & 400m state champion. Mangar represents South Sudan in Brazil Olympic Games 2016. Mangar will be going to South Africa to represent South Sudan in African championship in three weeks. Here is the interview.

Mangar and Akech Makur Chuot are South Sudanese Australian who came to Australia over 10 years. The two with their mother and siblings settled in Western Australia. Like many other Southern Sudanese, both Akech and Mangar were refugees in Kakuma Refugee camp. They lost their father Makur Chuot during the war in South Sudan but their mother gave them the care they need even in Australia.
