(Podcast in Dinka) After many years, the South Sudanese government is now taking a step to control the cyberspace and to give the people of South Sudanese access to the internet.

President Kiir and the Minister of information laughed the new international gateway. Since independence in 2011, South Sudan was given the top domain of .ss and it was never used. The new development will mean the government will be able to regulate the flow of data. Minister of information Micheal Makuei said:

“With today’s inauguration of the gateway, we expect our people to experience improvement in the quality of international communication for voice and data. The implementation and operationalization of South Sudan international gateway is not the end point, but one achievement among others to come.”

If South Sudanese establishes a proper internet infrastructure, this may offer young people a new opportunity in learning and start a small business online.
