South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Appointed 34 Ministers and 10 Deputies to R-GONU

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit has announced the 34 Ministers and 10 Deputy Ministers of the Revitalised Government of National Unity. For the first time since Independence, a woman is the Minister of Defence, and many women will serve in other senior positions. These two decrees, 33 and 34, were read out on National Television. The President is yet to announce the appointment of the State's Governors.


On decree No. 33, President Kiir and his counterparts in the Government appointed 34 Ministers to the cabinet. SPLM in the Government which is led by President Salva Kiir took 20 Ministers and SPLM IO with nine Ministers. For first in history, South Sudan is going to have a woman as Minister of Defence.
