Sudan's Defence Minister Ahmed Awad:" announce as minister of defence the toppling of the regime and detaining its chief in a secure place"

Sudanese President Omar Hassan el Beshir has officially stepped down after uring Sudan for 30 years. Sudanese army under the leadership of the Minister of Defence formed transitional administration.

The Minister addressed the nation on the state-owned radio Omdurman at about 10 pm Australian Eastern time. Minister Ahmed Awad ibn Auf announced that he would be leading the new military council that he will prepare the country for new elections after two years. The Minister, however, confirm that they have toppled and arrested their former leader in a secure place.

"I announce as minister of defence the toppling of the regime and detaining its chief in a secure place. The armed forces will take power with the representation of the people to pave the way for Sudanese people to live in dignity."

The voices of the demonstrators or those who have been championing the demonstration against the government of Omar el Beshir are yet to be heard if this step solves what they have been asking?

Omar el Beshir ruled Sudan longer than any other President of the country. In April 1985, just three years after South Sudan and North went to the war, Sudanese President Jaafar Muhammad Jaafar Nimeiri was ousted by mass protest across Northern towns and cities.

The mass protest began in the historical town of Atbara on 19 December 2018 then slowly move toward Khartoum. For four months, Sudanese citizens have been demanding the reduction of higher food prices, and that quickly turn political movement.
