Aguer Barach Kuot Rual is a South Sudanese-Australian who came to Australia in 2003 from Sudan. For ten years, Aguer was a resident of Sunshine in Victoria before returning to South Sudan in 2013. Aguer joined the South Sudanese opposition led by Riek Machar in Pagak, and in 2016 he defected to the ruling faction of SPLM IG. Aguer is the graduate of Victoria University and holds a Masters degree. To understand his story, we contacted Aguer in Juba who narrated his story of joining SPLM IO and government. Here is the exclusive interview on SBS Dinka Radio.

What is the different between SPLM IG and SPLM IO?

"One can't distinguish between SPLM IG and SPLM IO because they do things the same way. Many of them work for their interests, not for any national call."

What power does Angelina Teny hold?

"During our times in Pagak, those who oppose peace were Angelina, Dhieu Mathok, Lol Gatkuoth and Taban Deng Gai. Another problem that we have was that Riek was more supportive of other tribes within the organisation but that caused him the problem with those of Lol and Taban who were not interested in seeing us 'Dinka' as part of the organisation. 75% of every decision made by Riek is influenced by Angelina but I can say Riek take 25%. She is the power behind every decision."

Will Riek work with Taban if he returns?

''Whether you like or not, if Riek returns, one thing will have to be followed. Give Taban the petroleum Ministry and there will be no problems but any other post will be a reason for conflict or further rebellion. South Sudan Government doesn't know much about Taban and the reasons that put him apart with Riek."
