In 2014, Alier Ateny Lueth(Alier Samuel) left Australia to join South Sudanese opposition which was led by Dr. Riek Machar. He became a member of the peace talk and later appointed governor of the proposed Jonglei State by the SPLM/IO. After the peace (ARICSS) was signed in Addis Ababa and Juba, Alier was sent with other officials as part of the advance team. In July 2016 when the new conflict erupted, Alier went to the UN camp where he remained as IDP with thousands of South Sudanese living at the UN camp in Juba. As an Australian citizen, the Australian Government through DFAT negotiated his release with other western citizens. He was eventually evacuated to Australia. Alier will join us today at SBS Dinka Radio
