The alleged jailing of protesters and opposition individuals in Aweil State has been denied by the Minister of Information, Youth, Culture and Sport, James Wieu Mayol

He affirmed that those who were alleged to have been arrested were small group of protesters blocking the Governor from entering the area for organised visit. He further particularized that he has visited all the prisons in the area to find out whether there were members of opposition involved in the arrest as affirmed but did not verify this.

However, the minister confirmed that two or three individuals were arrested because they have set a national Flag alight that was seen to have been criminal offence committed against the state. He stressed that people were charged with criminal offences but were later released on bail to appear in court at a later date to defend the charges.
