Deng Atem Wal is a member of the South Sudanese opposition group known as SPLM IO. He serves as a member of the National Liberation Council. Before he joined SPLM IO, he survived an attempt on his life in Juba and another in Nairobi in 2016. As a close colleague to the late Dong Samuel Luak and Aggrey Idris, Deng is blaming the kidnapping and death on both the government National Security and the breakaway faction of the SPLM IO led by Vice President Taban Deng.

In this interview, Deng explained how he survived an attempt on his life in Kenya from those who described themselves as double agents of South Sudan and Kenya. To avoid being kidnap, Deng left for Khartoum and that where we are doing this interview in reaction to the death of his colleagues. The UN report blames the kidnapping and death of both Aggrey and Dong at South Sudanese National Security. South Sudanese Government rejected the accusation made by the UN report.
