Interview with Constable Kur Akech Thiek Kur

Constable Kur Akech Thiek Kur was born in Bor in South Sudan. During the war, Kur moved to Kenya where he became a refugee. After his refugee's application to Austalia was accepted, Kur arrived in Melbourne in 2006. Like many refugees who came from war regions, Kur went to works and at the same time attended his studies at Monash College. Kur obtained the Diploma of Arts (Communications & Human Behaviour at Monash College) and Bachelor of Arts (Criminology and Communications) from Monash University.

To sustain himself during his studies, Kur worked full time as an unarmed security guard and Dinka interpreter. He then joined Victoria Police as a sworn Protective Services Officer.  After almost four years as a PSO (Protective Services Officer), Kur attended a transition course that could put him as a full member of the Victorian Police. Kur recently graduated as a sworn Constable and he now stationed at Narre Warren Police Station. Dinka and we asked him about the role of Victorian police in the community. In the interview, Kur talked about the role police play in cases of domestic family violence, assault, and forms of violence. Here is the interview in Dinka.
