Kamilo Dau: "I was tortured by my slave master in North Sudan for 6 years"

Kamilo Dau Ajak Mayen is a music producer, singer, and pianist who helped many Dinka-speaking musicians across Australia. Kamilo came to Australia from Sudan over ten years ago with his family. As a young boy in 1983, Kamilo was kidnapped by the Arab-militia and sold into slavery by Arabs tribesmen in North Sudan.


Kamilo lived in captivity for 6 years until he was rescued by South Sudanese man who came to where he was being held. After his release, Kamilo went to the church in Khartoum where he continues with his love of locally made guitar and piano. Kamilo love of music started when he was held in captivity, he said that music was the only thing that could heal him from the pain of being beaten and physically abused by the master.
