Hundreds of thousands of people have staged a "sit-in" protest outside the headquarters of Sudan's military, hoping to increase pressure on them to hand power to a civilian administration. The armed forces took over when President Omar al-Bashir was overthrown last month ((April 11)). Some protesters fear they may want to hold onto power for good, or do deals with those who remain from Mr al-Bashir's government.
