Mengistu Haile Mariam is the former President who ruled Ethiopia from being the Chairman of Derge and the President between 1977 and 1991. In 1983, Mengistu was one of the few Africans who came to the aide of Sudanese who made Ethiopia their new base. Mengistu played a significant role in connecting senior members of the SPLA/M with his friends like Fidel Castro of Cuba and Colonel Gaddafi. Since the time Mengistu regime was toppled; Ajak Deng Chiengkou will be the first South Sudanese-Australian journalist to interview Ethiopian former President Mengistu Haile Marriam about his support for the South Sudanese people in this two parts interview.
