Nhial was the head of the Government negotiation team in Addis Ababa. Recently, an article was published at South Sudan News Agency alleging that Nhial has been involved in a scandal the accusation he denied. He has this to say, "I heard of the article circulating about the scandal, but I am not involved in anything to do with money.

Nhial was a critic of President Kiir in 2013 on how the SPLM party was being managed, and he was a participant on the famous 05 Dec 2013 when the SPLM Party called for the press conference. When the war erupted on 15 Dec, some seniors SPLM leaders were arrested, and Nhial was not. Nhial decided to remain with the Government, and some of his colleagues were arrested and prosecuted on charges of treasons.
The State later stayed the case, and all were released. Hon Nhial served as Minister in many Nhial Deng Nhial served many positions during the liberation as Chief Negotiator for CPA and later became a Minister in the Government of South Sudan. He also has the rank of Lieutenant General in the Sudanese People Liberation Army.
