Dhieu Deng Leek is a former 'Lostboy of Sudan' who left for USA over 10 years ago. He is the founder of John Dau Foundation and has been running health services in Duk County where he was born. In May this year, Dhieu travelled to some of the most isolated islands known as Koyoom in Duk County. There are about 19 thousand people living in those scattered islands in the Sudd areas. The area is infested with mosquitoes, increasing the chance of water borne diseases. John Foundation was the first agency to establish a health service which is now believed to be helping thousands of lives in the area. John left USA for Bor where he took a risky trip to the Koyoom islands, a 12 hour journey through river Nile. In his first interview on SBS Dinka Radio, Dau stated the need for the diaspora and those with abilities to help children in education across those isolated islands.
