The Royal Commission into the protection and detention of children in the Northern Territory is underway, with three weeks of public hearings scheduled. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced the commission following shocking footage of boys being stripped and tear-gassed at the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in 2014. Co-commissioners Mick Gooda and Margaret White are investigating incidents over the past 10 years since the Territory introduced the Youth Justice Act.
