Kakuma refugee camp has been flooded by heavy rain that fell for five hours. Two young girls are confirmed dead, and one was rescued after they tried to swim across the flooded Kakuma river.

In an interview with SBS Dinka, one Kakuma resident Adeer Deng Awuou described the situation, telling SBS Dinka that various locations are underwater and people are being told to move to higher ground.

“The three girls were trying to cross the river, but they were washed away by the river. Two died, and one of them was rescued. Currently, houses are collapsing in many areas, and group 31 is the most affected area by the flood. UN agencies are yet to respond to the situation.”
