Dirk Hartog master of the ship the Eendracht reached Australia on 25 October 1616. He only stayed for two days but left us a plate with inscription to tell us where he was going. Today we recognise his arrival as being important in the history of Australia. Dr Wendy van Duivenvoorde (FLINDERS UNI) found more exciting personal information about him in the archives of Amsterdam. (rpt)
