A community activist in the field of refugee rights and human rights in general, Mr. Joseph Youhana has run for elections in Hume City, which will be held in October by mail.
Mr. Joseph Youhana said that since 2008 he has worked to be active in stability and refugee advocacy organizations and has become a member of committees speaking on behalf of refugees in Australia and at international conferences. He added that he is now working with Brotherhood St. Laurence non- profit organization as a program manager.
Regarding his candidacy, he said, I would love to continue serving the community and in a new way by running for the city council in order to be able to help solve the problems that have emerged more clearly during the pandemic Covid- 19.
He added that there is a lack of knowledge about what is happening in the city and the city council. . If I win, I can convey the voice of the community. There is a problem of integration and a lack of knowledge of the services provided by local or state and even federal governments. We also need to introduce the spirit of youth in the council to be able to strengthen the bonds between leaders and the community itself.
He stressed that it is necessary for us to have more than one voice to be able to convey the concerns of society with a stronger voice and to work together in providing various services. He also cooperate with other candidates to raise awareness of the importance of these elections to the community and to introduce the candidates through Facebook, Instagram, Zoom and other means.
He said if I win or not, I will continue to provide services to society and work as much as possible to solve various problems, for example increasing the unemployed youth due to the pandemic Covid 19 .
