Since 2014, some Assyrians from Iraq, Europe and America have been working to establish an Assyrian parliament in exile. A broader committee was formed, included others from Europe, in addition to Australia, to hold a general Assyrian conference in 2021. What are the recent developments?

We met a member of the preparatory committee for the conference 2021, Mr. Aziz Said president of the Assyrian Federation in Germany and Central Europe. He said the committee formed after the Yerevan (Armenia) conference in 2019 and Wiesbaden (Germany) 2020. The committee began contacting and discussing the holding of an international general Assyrian conference with Assyrian federations, institutions, parties and societies spread around the world, in order for participate in it widely.

Mr. Aziz mentioned that the idea started in 2014 but was not accepted at that time. The UCAP Committee believes that there is a need to hold an international general Assyrian conference and move to discuss the matter with the largest number of representatives of our people's organizations and societies.

Mr. Aziz said that the conference to be held in the year 2021 will issue its decision to establish a parliament or any international entity or grouping according to what the members of the conference unanimously agree upon.

He added that the conference preparatory  committee is moving to form sub-committees that work to develop regulations and laws and provide financing for the success of the conference.

And he concluded that the committee invites all formations of our people from any country in the world to participate, because this will benefit the nation and its future.
