The Assyrian Church has decided to close the gates to worshipers from the time the government announced restrictions about social distancing and social gatherings. This means that church followers have not been in the church and had to watch Holy mass through facebook only.
His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia in an interview with SBS Assyrian, delivered some messages about the COVID-19 situation and matters that concern the church. He asked worshipers to be patient and pray so we can pass over this crisis.
He talks about the church arrangements about the two coming events in the Church's calendar, Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.
In both days, there will be a mass ceremony attended by few clergy people only and will be broadcast live through facebook. Also youth group of the church have organised to deliver palm branches to people interested and have registered their names with the church's website.
The Easter mass will start broadcasting from 5:00 AM and will be repeated until 12:00 PM, so everyone will have the opportunity to watch the mass remotely.
His Beatitude said he believes this crisis will pass, and things will get back to normal in few months. He thanked the church's members for sending their donation electronically and never stopped supporting the church
