There were emotional scenes at a Senate inquiry as Australians stuck overseas plead for the government to do more to help them return home. Almost 27,000 ((26,800)) citizens and residents are currently unable to get back.
In March, Deanne Vowels, her husband Paul and their five children travelled to the UK for a four week trip, just two days before the travel ban came into effect. Four weeks turned into five months as they decided to stay with family and wait for their rescheduled flight on August 16.
They are among tens of thousands of Australians abroad trying to get home.
Deanne Vowels is a 40-year-old teacher, her husband is a paramedic.
Ms Vowels told a Senate hearing she was advised by Australian consular officials to set up a Go-Fund-Me page or appeal to relatives for help.
