Carmen Lazar talks about Community Support Program

Recently many people have arrived to Australia through the community support program known previously as Pilot Program. Some arrivals through this program are not adhering to the terms and conditions put to them before they were accepted and that is causing them a lot of problems with the immigration department.

Manger of Assyrian resource centre Mrs Carmen Lazar told SBS Assyrian that there are some families who signed declaration and acceptance of the terms laid out by the Australian immigration authorities as per their grant of visa that they should be working at their sponsored employees as they arrive to Australia.

She says it is unfortunate that there are few families whom been offered a job but rejected the offer saying the job was not suitable to them. She also says that some of them don't go to learn English despite the center's arrangement with NSW TAFE who have offered them night time classes if they wish to study after work.

Mrs Lazar says the centre has to report to immigration about the progress and settlement of the people who arrive through the community support program so the immigration can assess their position and evaluate their visa
