Source: Assyrian civic club

Assyrians around the world have chosen the seventh of August as the annual Martyrs Day. for decades, this day's been commemorated with different activities, rallies and meetings. This year, and due to social distancing and gatherings restrictions because COVID-19, there will be limited or even no meetings and gatherings in public venues. But with the increase use of social media and new technologies, the Martyrs Day commemoration is taking a different shape.

Deputy General Secretary of the Assyrian Universal Alliance and Secretary of Australia and New Zealand chapters, Mr Hermis Shaheen, told SBS that this year's commemoration will be done via ZOOM app.
Many local, state, and federal MPs will be joining a special group meeting through ZOOM to deliver speeches and join the Assyrian nation on this sad memorable day.
Mr Shaheen said that the meeting will be joined by Dr Anaheet Khesroeva from USA and other experts in Genocides, to talk about the Assyrian, Armenian and Greek genocides committed by the Ottoman empire during WW1.
The ZOOM meeting will start with a prayer in Assyrian by H.B Mar Meelis Zaia Metropolitan of the Assyrian Church, followed by other speakers  from the Australian Parliament, guests from Assyrian organisations. The meeting will be broadcast live on social media.
Mr Shaheen said that although this way of delivery can reach a huge number of Assyrians around the world, but it lacks the personal face to face meetings that usually is experienced in the traditional venue gatherings.
