It’s a question many older Australians are asking – when will I be able to hug my grandchildren? Children make up a very small portion of COVID-19 cases.. Now the World Health Organisation says it’s investigating whether cuddling young kids might be safe.
It’s become the new normal: for adults, handshakes, kisses and high fives are out.
But in Switzerland, cuddles with grandchildren are now in!
The nation has changed its official health advice, declaring hugs with kids under 10 are officially safe - provided they’re kept brief, and grandparents aren’t left to babysit.
The Swiss health ministry’s infectious diseases chief, Dr Daniel Koch, is convinced children pose no threat… even to society’s most vulnerable.
It’s an issue also being investigated by the World Health Organisation.
One of the agency’s senior officials, Dr Maria Van Kerkhove says while more research is needed, data already suggests children with COVID-19 might be far less infectious than adult.
