Prime Minister Scott Morrison has invited US President-elect Joe Biden to travel to Australia to mark next year's 70th anniversary of the ANZUS treaty, while thanking Donald Trump for deepening the alliance.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison plans to invite US President elect Joe Biden to visit Australia to mark the 70th anniversary of the security treaty with the United States and New Zealand.

Mr Morrison has congratulated Mr Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris on their election success this month stating he looks forward to forging a great partnership in the future.

He says the Australia-US alliance is enduring and based on shared democratic values such as respect for human rights, equality, freedom of religion and diverse opinions.
