In 1975, radio 2EA (now SBS) broadcast it's firs language program. This was just a trial for a short time to promote the health system and help new migrants to settle in Australia. it started with eight languages in Melbourne and seven in Sydney. Today, after 45 years of service, SBS has sixty eight different languages.

Mr Phlimon Darmo was one of the very first broadcasters on the Assyrian program which was first broadcast in 21 June 1976. almost one year after the 2EA (2-Ethnic Australia) started operation. He told SBS how the founding group started communicating with managers of 2EA , asking for the Assyrian language to be included in the radio programming.

After presenting the plan and what contents will be included in the program, 2EA granted the Assyrian community in Sydney a thirty minutes program following the Armenian program which was in thirty minutes duration as well.

The first Assyrian broadcast in June 1976, was received with great joy and happiness, as the community did not have any media outlets in Australia in the Assyrian language.

with limited technology and resources, the program was pre-recorded and then broadcast. The team used to bring their own LP records to playback songs.

Mr Darmo acknowledges many people, including first broadcaster and program manager Dinkha Warda, first female broadcaster, Nelle Dawoodi, deputy secretary Mr Benyamin Gandelov, Suzy David and  Sabrina Bet-Mirza, who worked as broadcasters for over eight years. Ms Janet Oshana, who was the female voice for five years, Mr Romeo Hanna, for his great contribution for decades as coordinator of recording and musical elements of the program.
