Due to the latest COVID-19 cases increase in South-Western Sydney LGA, many pop up test clinics are emerging to help cope with the large demand for testing. Staff from STARTTS are volunteering at those hubs helping to ease the testing process.
Lilian Shamoon is a STARTTS employee who is volunteering to help the community members at COVID-19 test clinic at Eden Avenue reception at Edensor Park.
She told SBS Assyrian, The South Western Sydney Health District asked STARTTS for health workers to volunteer at test clinics to help cope with the huge amount of people trying to get tested for COVID-19.
Ms Lilian Shamoon helps members of the Assyrian community and particularly the elderly and new migrants who are not very proficient in English to fill out the registration forms and also guide them into the hall safely.
Ms Shamoon says sometimes you feel a bit scared doing this type of job, seeing hundreds of people everyday not knowing if someone is infected, despites not having any physical contact with anyone.
The volunteers usually change their protective gear every five hours as per safety instructions.
