On the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, we met Mrs. Sanaa Gorgees, an activist and member of the Assyrian Australian Association in Sydney, and she said that working women in society every day is her feast. She added that this day is a symbol of celebrating women not because they are different from men, but because of the hard work they do and exercise their distinctive role in society ... as well as the strength that they show in their active participation in aspects of life.
Activist Sanaa stressed that it is absolutely necessary to celebrate this special day for women not only for her duties at home, but in appreciation of her duties and tasks in business and society. She concluded by saying that women deserve this appreciation.
On the other hand, Ms. Amira Benjamin, a language teacher at the Assyrian Language College and at the Assyrian Diqlat School, said that women have proven equal to men in this time in different fields of life. She asserted that on our part, we, the Assyrians, have examples of great women in history and they have played a great role in the state, such as Queen Shameiram.
In our time, the Assyrian woman is educated and takes her role in various fields of life .. She deserves to be equal to men.
She added that women have reached high levels in many aspects of life .. And considered that this day is worthy of her as a reminder and an appreciation for her role.
Miss Dayana Yakho ( Master in psychology, social counselor) said that celebrating this day is a rare opportunity to honor women and appreciate their role, be it sister, grandmother, teacher, doctor, worker, etc.
She added that this is an opportunity to remember all the women who sacrificed and fought for their rights, without whom we would not have achieved.
