A delegation from Assyrian Universal Alliance Australia chapter and Assyrian Australian National Federation visited the Jewish Museum in Sydney last weekend to participate and see the opening of a new section reviewing the history of the life of Jews in different countries.

A member of the delegation, Mr. David David, said that the museum is an eyewitness to the history of the Jewish nation.

He said that “we were invited by NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (JBD) to participate in the celebration of the opening of a new section”.

Our host highlighted the close relationship between the delegation and the JBD in which they have collaborated and worked with each other in several fields.

The new section showcases the antiquities and heritage of the Jews who lived in Islamic countries such as Iraq, Iran, Yemen, and Egypt.

Our host also added that “the antiquities and documents gave great details about the lives of the Jews in those countries”.

Furthermore, he described the museum as “large and excellently coordinated” and said that it includes a hall that can host various events.

Mr. David said the young people in charge of the museum showed great knowledge of their history and heritage.

He also went to say that “we felt that they really are an example of passing down the Jewish culture to new generations”.

When asked about the importance of having a similar museum designated for the Assyrian culture and heritage, Mr. David said that “this question was asked to us in the museum and unfortunately, I said that we do not have a museum yet, but the idea and the dream exist within our people and we are trying to achieve it”.

However, the ongoing persecution and displacement of our people force us to use the available resources to assist and support them.

Our guest also said that having an Assyrian museum would be a significant move toward our cause.

Especially that such a museum will allow members of other communities to learn about what our nation has suffered from massacres and genocides.

Mr. David believes that dealing and mixing with other cultures is very useful for our community.

This is due to the fact that these communities have “great respect for the entire society including ours”.

Mr. David also said that our Assyrian community should take such steps as an example and follow them to achieve similar outcomes.
