Upon colonisation many of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tribes were told not to practice culture and were also told not to speak their own traditional languages. First Nations people were assimilated and this resulted in the loss of many of our Indigenous languages, many of our languages which are now being reclaimed.

Hundreds of our Indigenous languages were lost across the nation at first settlement. And it’s only in recent times many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are now reclaiming what is rightfully there own languages and re-connecting to culture through learning their own traditional languages.
