Traditional Aboriginal weaving is a beautiful artform thousands of years old which has been passed down through generations.
Quandamooka Artists from Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) Sonja and Elisa-Jane Carmichael have an on-going connection with country with their land, waters and their own unique cultural and artistic practices.
Sonja Carmichael has spent time researching her ancestors weaving and string making techniques to produce delicate woven forms of art and to pass down this cultural knowledge to daughter Elisa-Jane.
Sonja and Elisa-Jane Carmichael art will be on display at the Art Gallery of South Australia's annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art. The Open Hands exhibition is on at the Art Gallery of from 16th October – 31 January 2021.
