Although the new Baghdad government promised not to oppose peaceful demonstrators, but on Sunday night, riot police attacked protesters in the Tahrir Square and the southern provinces, killing two and wounding 17 others.
Mrs. Shamiran Odisho, secretary of the Iraqi Women’s Association and an activist who provides support to the demonstrators, said the demonstrators are still coming out for the same reasons. So far, non of the governments have not provided any solutions to the problems of the Iraqis. There are no reforms, no intention to rehabilitate the agricultural and industrial sectors, and no plans for employment of the graduates.
She added that these reasons make matters worse and the demonstrators went out to support their fellows in the provinces of southern Iraq, so riot police engaged them and used live bullets to kill. As a result, two young men, one of them a sculptor, were killed.
Ms. Shamiran said that civil society organizations and women, provide aid to the demonstrators, such as medical supplies and other necessities. The demonstrators are demanding their simple rights that the government cannot provide because the government is based on the principle of quotas and there is a widespread corruption in it.
