SBS is broadcasting the NSW Government daily press conference with an instant Assyrian translation. This will be an on going project during the current situation regarding COVID-19.

Valentine Aghajani is a NAATI accredited interpreter and she is doing the press translation. She told SBS that this is a very different way of translation that requires and immediate and clear way of delivering of information.

Ms Aghajani has an extensive experience in interpreting in the Assyrian language and been a NAATI accredited translator for decades.

She says "some times in these conferences, there are some problems we face during interpreting when journalists ask a question, we can't hear them until a microphone is brought close to them. Here, we miss half of the question. We try to catch up with the conversation and sometimes we miss few sentences".

But most importantly, Miss Aghajani says, is the over all message that the government tries to deliver to the public to be clear and simple to understand.
