- Melbourne businessman makes donation for restoration of Evangelismos
- The church had suffered damages from a devastating fire
- The benefactor’s contribution was recognised at a Greek Community of Melbourne event
GOCMV President Bill Papastergiadis announced the donation by Andreas Andrianopoulos and his family while on stage giving a speech at last Sunday’s commemorations for the 200 years of Greek Independence.

The line-up of events on Lansdowne street started with a church service followed by VIP speeches, dances, student choirs and impressive re-enactments.
Commemorations took place outside Evangelismos church that had been destroyed by a fire in 2016.
With restoration works ongoing, the Andrianopoulos’ family contribution is deemed significant to ensure their completion.
The Greek Australian businessman attended the events alongside his son, Chris Andrianopoulos and wife Niki as well as family member Con Xintaras.
“The Andrianopoulos family have been benefactors of the Greek Community of Melbourne for many years.
They have been generous with the community on so many initiatives,” Mr Papastergiadis said speaking of his personal friendship with the Andrianopoulos and the importance “the family held within the community.”
