United States president Donald Trump has been sending mixed messages over how he views NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. In January, he declared the NATO alliance obsolete, but, after taking office, he said the United States strongly supported NATO. His comments have puzzled some NATO countries as they try to work out what role the United States will play under the Trump presidency.
