Australia is providing nearly $1 million in food and supplies to help more than 320,000 people displaced by conflict in Marawi City in the southern Philippines, AAP reported.

The money will go towards providing tarpaulins, sleeping mats, mosquito nets and sanitation kits, as well as rice and water.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on Tuesday said the assistance comes on top of a support package she announced during a visit in March.

Alinader Minalang, the health director for the Lanao del Sur province which includes Marawi, said 300 cases of diarrhoea had been recorded among the nearly 40,000 people huddled in emergency shelters set up in community halls, gymnasiums and Islamic schools, the Reuters reported.
