Australian aid to be sent to earthquake-ravaged Mindanao

Emergency humanitarian supplies including solar lamps and tarpaulins to be used as temporary shelter are being deployed to earthquake-ravaged areas in Mindanao.

Earlier today, the Philippines’ Department of Social Welfare and Development has loaded tents to be sent to families affected.

Volunteers from the Philippine Air Force, Bureau of Fire Protection, Air Force Reservists, and Army Reservists have provided logistics support.

Earthquake damage

On October 16,  a strong 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit areas in Southern Philippines leaving eight people dead and dozens injured.

Several aftershocks were recorded in central and eastern parts of Mindanao a few days later. 

According to reports, hundreds of residents felt traumatized by the strong tremors and continuous aftershocks.
