A heatwave's coming!

With extreme heat enveloping New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania during the last few days of the year, here are some important tips to remember to survive the harsh weather:

1. Hydrate.

Bring your body temperature down by chugging down on some good old H2O. What this does is flush out the heat and sweat from your body, Not having enough water in your system can then lead to dehydration.

Make sure to have a bottle with you at all times, especially if you're planning to go outdoors.

2. Rinse your wrists.

Take a more targeted approach when it comes to cooling down your body - rinse your wrists with cold water.

Fun fact - focusing on these pulse points will cool down the blood in your arms. The blood then circulates to the other parts of your body, further cooling you down for at least an hour.

3. Eat smaller meals more often.

You know how you eat a lot more when it's cold? It's the body's way of telling you to keep warm because the act of eating makes your temperature go up (yep, I'll allow you to use that excuse). The larger the meal, the harder your body works to process it.

So as the temperature rises, try to eat smaller meals more often. Not only will this help with your body temperature, it's apparently a good way to lose weight.

4. Freeze hot water bottles.

Hot water bottles aren't just for tummy aches and menstrual cramps anymore.

Instead of pouring hot water into these bottles, place tap water inside and place it in the freezer. Use the frozen bottle to cool down your body.

5. Put salt in ice water to chill drinks quickly.

It can take up to 45 minutes for drinks to become cold in the fridge.

If you want (no, need!) that cold can of soda right now, add table salt to ice water and leave your drink in the salty, icy fluid for 2-3 minutes.
